Building on analysis of recent job advertisements, this policy brief by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) highlights how crucial digital skills are for economic growth and international competitiveness across the EU. The brief provides an overview of digital technology and the main drivers for changing digital skills needs, such as the emergence of AI, as well as some of the key challenges in upskilling the workforce, including an overall lack of digital competences. The brief argues that to guarantee that the digital transformation benefits everyone, efforts should be directed toward training and retraining the workforce, enhancing the capabilities of educators and instructors, and modernizing educational and training systems.
