This OECD report examines the demand for AI-related skills from 2019 to 2022, revealing that while the demand for AI skills is mainly within the ICT and Professional Services sectors, with machine learning the most commonly listed skill.

Description

This OECD Artificial Intelligence paper assesses the skills needs for AI system development or operation in 14 OECD countries from 2019 to 2022. EU countries included Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden. Despite a rapid surge in the demand for AI-related skills, job openings related to AI accounted for less than 1% of total job postings, primarily concentrated in sectors like Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Professional Services. Among these skills, those connected to Machine Learning were the most in demand. Major companies - those posting the most AI job positions - showed a higher requirement for AI professionals who combine technical expertise with leadership, innovation, and problem-solving skills, emphasizing the significance of these competencies in the field of AI. Annex C of the report includes an AI skills classification, which can be used as a resource to understand key skill needs.
