New Regional Skills Partnership to support digital skills in Italy’s healthcare system

Education in digital healthcare is key to boosting the digital proficiency of healthcare professionals, especially in a technological and interconnected world.

The Regional Skills Partnership for Digital Skills is working towards this goal by implementing the General Strategy for Improving Digital Skills

The implementation of this strategy is funded by the Technical Support Instrument (TSI) of the Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM). The initiative is a joint effort with the Italian Ministry of Health, the Italian Department of Digital Transition, AGENAS and ProMIS.

The Partnership aims to equip healthcare workers with the necessary digital skills for the future. Part of this strategy includes the Digital Upskilling Life Cycle Model, which is designed to establish a sustainable digital health education system. The model outlines a set of digital skills that all health professionals should possess, taking into account the growing digitalisation of organisational settings and patient interactions. Furthermore, it offers a method to personalise digital skill requirements according to professional roles. It also includes a national catalogue of digital health training programmes, along with a system to assess their effectiveness.

The ultimate vision of the Partnership is to implement education in digital healthcare across all Italian regions and autonomous provinces. This aligns with the TSI strategy and promotes a unified approach to developing digital skills among health professionals.
