Challenges
Europe is facing an acute skills challenge in electronics, due to the long-term shift towards green and digital transition. The number of vacancies for engineers and technicians is growing, and rapid technological advancement calls for continually evolving skills in research and development, design, manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI) ethics, cybersecurity and energy-efficiency. Currently, learners often do not have access to state-of-the art design and manufacturing equipment used by the industry, and are not trained in real-life business problems
Commitments made under the Pact for Skills
The Skills Partnership for Microelectronics endorsed by the businesses, R&D hubs, education providers and NGO sets up new and upgrades existing digital education teaching facilities, training equipment and infrastructure, and works to raise awareness of opportunities in the sector. It aims to improve skills intelligence and prepare for the future of work via pan-European partnerships. The Partnership aims to provide upskilling and reskilling opportunities in the microelectronics sector for more than 250,000 people over five years.
Through its activities, the Microelectronics LSP aims to promote upskilling and reskilling of 50% of the workforce each year by 2030 across the industry.
