Pact for Skills launches Large-scale Skills Partnership on the Digitalisation of the Energy System

On 5 December 2023, with support from the European Commission, the Pact for Skills launched a Largescale Skills Partnership (LSP) on the Digitalisation of the Energy System. The Partnership aims to accelerate skills development in the EU in response to the rapid digitalisation of the energy system, which will be essential for a successful transition to clean energy. 

Background:  

The energy sector is undergoing unprecedented transformation, driven by global events like the invasion of Ukraine, and renewed emphasis on decarbonisation and digitalisation (as seen in the European Green Deal and ‘Fit for 55’ targets). The LSP on the Digitalisation of the Energy System is the 20th partnership under the Pact for Skills, uniting industry and research organisations to design and implement specialised training programmes which foster a digitally-skilled workforce, ready to meet the challenges of the evolving energy landscape. 

The LSP on the Digitalisation of the Energy System aims to contribute to building a digitally-skilled workforce by fostering collaboration between training providers, energy sector companies, and digital technology firms. It builds on the work of the EDDIE project, initiated in 2020, through structured networking and knowledge-sharing. 

The LSP’s key areas of focus include collaboration with related initiatives, addressing skill gaps, and promoting education and training programmes. Acting as coordinator, EDDIE ensures compliance with commitments and facilitates communication with relevant stakeholders.
