Description

This research paper produced by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) covers microcredentials and how the qualifications systems around labour market education and training more broadly are evolving. As the trends towards modularization and recognition of prior learning continue, microcredentials are gaining increasing attention as an element of national qualifications systems. However, the increasing use of microcredentials raises questions around the potential negative consequences of short-term learning and less holistic skill sets. This paper presents the current thinking on microcredentials, how they should be incorporated, and how to mitigate any negative effects.
