Description

The lack of skills and capacities is a major obstacle for innovation, in particular in the creation and growth of innovation-driven SMEs in the Western Balkans, leading to persistent brain drain. The aim of this study is to explore how the gap in skills development in the region can be filled by redirecting (or reinforcing) investment in SMEs and their skills ecosystem through impact investing. For this purpose, a diagnostic analysis was conducted on how impact investment is used for skills development in leading European innovation systems, in order to propose best practices and examples which can be applied in the WB region to support skills development.
