Description
The Committee for Agriculture within the OECD’s Trade and Agricultural Directorate have developed this paper to take stock of the existing labour and skills shortages in the agri-food sector. It explores trends that are impacting the agri-food sector, existing labour market policies, and ongoing efforts to increase educational achievement amongst the workforce, as well as the main challenges OECD countries are facing in upskilling and reskilling the sector. The paper incorporates the viewpoints of delegations, external agri-food experts, and insights from other relevant OECD Directorates. After providing an overview of the situation across OECD countries, the paper provides an in-depth look at the strategies and ongoing initiatives within the agri-food sectors of six countries: Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain and the United States.
