Pact for Skills celebrates reaching 1 000 members!

In November, the Pact had a double cause for celebration, as it marked its second anniversary and reached 1 000 members. The thousandth member was welcomed at the flagship event of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

The Pact announced the 1 000 member milestone during a dedicated session organised as part of the European Employment and Social Rights Forum (16−17 November). The session aimed to showcase testimonials from different Pact members on the benefits of joining the initiative. During the session, the Pact’s 1 000th member, the European Heating Industry (EHI), received a warm welcome by the Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit.

The EHI brings together companies that are leaders in the production of efficient heating systems. The organisation estimates that by 2030, we will need 750 000 more heating system installers to meet Europe’s growing demand. In addition, the EHI has also estimated that at least 50 % of the existing installers will have to be reskilled to support Europe on its path to carbon neutrality.

The Pact’s 1 000th member has pledged to provide training on efficient and renewable technologies for those 750 000 installers needed. As part of that pledge, EHI companies are ready to step up and duly prepare the workforce that will make the heating transition a reality, taking on the mission of attracting young talents to the installing profession while providing them with local, well trained and secure jobs with a key role to play in the fight against climate change.

The organisation is also ready to work with national and local authorities to increase visibility to the heating sector as an employer, and to help adapt school programmes around the EU to ensure they include the knowledge needed for the job.
